What is pediatric dentistry?

Pediatric dentistry is the specialty of dentistry responsible for treating children. The pediatric dentist is in charge of exploring and treating children. They are also responsible for detecting possible anomalies in the position of the jaws or teeth to refer to the orthodontist, and to carry out restorative treatment if necessary.

WHAT TREATMENTS ARE THE MOST FREQUENT?

The most common treatments performed on children are traumatic injuries, sealants, whose function is to protect the grooves and fissures of the teeth to prevent possible cavities, and the treatment of cavities and their consequences.

SHOULD YOU TREAT BABY TEETH?

The milk teeth begin to erupt around 6 months, at 6 years the replacement begins and, generally at 12 years, the last temporary pieces fall, although each child has a different rhythm. During all these years, the milk teeth must remain in good condition because they are vital for the child to be able to chew and swallow well, speak correctly, as well as maintain adequate space for the growth of permanent teeth. At Bruno Negri Integral Dental Clinic we place a lot of emphasis on education and oral health care so that children begin to take care of their mouths from a very early age and understand the importance of maintaining their oral health during their development and growth.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN A CHILD LOSES A MILK TOOTH BEFORE THE DEFINITIVE TOOTH EMERGES?

When a child loses a tooth too soon, the permanent teeth can move into the empty space left behind and make it difficult for other permanent teeth to find a place to come in. This can cause crooked or crowded teeth. To avoid this, the pediatric dentist will place a  space maintainer until the permanent tooth erupts.

Our specialists in Pediatric Dentistry and Hygiene have painless procedures and techniques to restore and maintain children´s milk teeth.
